About StAC

StAC Today

St Andrew’s College is a thriving, bustling community of 1,350 male and female students located in suburban Merivale, just five minutes by car from the centre of Christchurch.  We accommodate day and boarding students, and welcome international students from around the world into our unique, close-knit community. Our teaching and learning programmes cater for students from pre-school to Year 13.

Beautiful Strowan House – a heritage building – is the frontispiece to our spacious grounds that nestle alongside tree-lined Strowan Stream. Many of our teaching facilities are world class. All of our teachers are committed to an annual programme of professional learning that keeps them attuned to latest thinking in their specialist subjects, and to new trends in effective practice within and outside the classroom.

St Andrew’s College today is a compelling mix of the traditional, the contemporary and the visionary. What makes us truly special? Each of our students might answer that question differently. It could be our fully functioning, professional TV studio that introduces young people to the thrill of bringing ideas, stories and talent to life on the small screen. It could be our outdoor education programmes based at our very own mountain lodge at spectacular Castle Hill that fill students with energy and excitement and boost their confidence in ways never thought possible. Or it could be the prestige of winning accolades in the annual Sheilah Winn Shakespeare Festival or performing at the World Pipe Band Championships in Scotland.

Whatever our students’ talents and interests; wherever their curiosity may take them, opportunities to excel abound at St Andrew’s College. We are committed to helping every one of our students reach their potential as scholars, sportspeople, artists, friends, family members and citizens.
