A key aspect of life in the Boarding Houses is the lively in-house social life. The year is punctuated with a series of dinners, concerts and celebrations where boarders at all year levels have the opportunity to dress up, perform and generally have fun together.
The year commences with a boarders’ sports weekend in February, when we ask all boarders to remain on campus for the weekend, and we run various fun sporting competitions. It is an ideal way of integrating new boarding students and really getting the house spirit fired up for the year. Other events, like our traditional Valentine’s Day dinner and our mid-winter Christmas dinner, see the boarders decked out in colourful and often outrageous costumes. Some sort of fiercely fought competition usually takes place between the Houses.
At the end of the term, the students run the College assembly, an event that is eagerly anticipated by boarding and day students alike. The boarders’ assembly has seen our Heads of Boarding enter on various forms of transport, ranging from tractors to quad bikes, and often we have four-legged visitors.
Staff also spend much time and energy arranging special House outings, or on taking students on weekend day trips. Skiing is a very popular activity during the winter. Not all boarders will have the same interests or skills, and staff endeavour to ensure that all students are feeling fulfilled and happy about both their academic and co-curricular lives.
