Special Events

When you join the St Andrew’s College boarding family, we want you to feel like you are part of something very special. A lively in-house social life helps greatly in that regard. The boarding year is highlighted by a series of dinners, concerts and celebrations that give boarders at all year levels the opportunity to dress up, perform and generally have a lot of fun together.
The year commences with a boarders’ sports weekend, when we run various fun sporting competitions. It is an ideal way to welcome new boarding students and really get the house spirit fired up for the year. Other events, like our traditional Valentine’s Day and mid-winter Christmas dinners, see students deck themselves out in colourful and often outrageous costumes. Some sort of fiercely fought competition usually takes place between the houses.
During the year, the boarders also get to organise a special assembly – an event that is eagerly anticipated by all students and staff. It is not uncommon for various forms of farm transport and four-legged visitors to take their place on stage during the boarders’ assembly!
Staff also work hard to organise special house outings and weekend day trips. Skiing is a very popular activity during the winter. We understand that not all boarders will have the same interests or skills, and so staff endeavour to ensure individual preferences are catered for at some stage during the course of a busy and fulfilling year.
