Beyond the Camera (BTC) is a film and television course for teenagers with a passion for film, TV or performance generally. It has been run during the school holidays for the past 13 years, and caters for students interested in a technical career in film or TV production, as well as students aspiring to a career in front of the cameras. BTC attracts students from all over New Zealand.
The College has a fully-functioning professional studio, complete with four cameras and a control room. All our cameras, lighting and editing software are of a professional industry standard.
Over the course of the BTC week, students have the opportunity to work in the studio, take workshops with industry professionals, and hear tutors from tertiary courses speak about careers in film and television.
During BTC course week the College is a hive of activity, with student camera crews working collaboratively to make short films and TV programmes. The culmination of the week is a live show filmed in front of an audience. The students’ work is always impressive, testimony to their own skills and the calibre of the course. So too is the fact that many BTC course participants have gone on to highly successful film and television careers.
Next BTC course:
BTC 28: Sun 19 April to Sat 25 April 2009
BTC 29: Sun 27 September to Sat 3 October 2009
