Major Redevelopment of Learning Facilities Begins

Earthworks have begun on a state-of-the-art extension and refurbishment of the St Andrew’s College Science and Mathematics centre – a project that will greatly enhance the physical environment of the school and help to maintain its position at the leading edge of teaching and learning capability as it nears the end of its first century of existence.

The project will see new classrooms and laboratories added to the western side of the existing Science block, incorporating future-focused interior design, technology and infrastructure. Outside, a complete refurbishment of the school’s central courtyard will give students, staff and visitors a highly appealing and very practical space in which to engage academically, culturally and socially. A new sports pavilion and changing facilities on the southern side of the Science block rounds off this phase of the redevelopment.

This project is the second phase of a comprehensive, multi-million dollar student-focused redevelopment planned for the next decade. Earlier this year the College’s outdoor education facility at Castle Hill in the Canterbury high country was completely rebuilt and renamed the Alistair Sidey Mountain Lodge. Collectively, the redevelopment projects will ensure St Andrew’s College is prepared for a second century of academic, sporting and cultural excellence.

Work on the Science and Mathematics centre is due for completion in September 2009.
