Student Successes of the Week

Every week we hear about a number of students achieving success across a number of areas whether it be on the sports field, the stage or in the classroom. Below are some of our latest student stories for the week ending 11 May 2012.
RICHIE MAKES TOP NZ TEAM
Richie Mo’unga played for the New Zealand Open Mixed Touch team against Australia in the recent Trans-Tasman series in Mudgee, Australia. Representing New Zealand makes him one of the elite players in the world, of any age. For a high school student to be selected in an Open Grade team for New Zealand is a really big deal! Despite being the youngest player on the field, Richie comfortably held his own and turned in solid performances in all three tests.
CANTERBURY ROAD RACE CHAMPS
The Canterbury Road Race Champs for 2012 were held on Thursday May 10 at North Hagley Park. They proved very successful for St Andrew’s athletes, who won two out of the nine races. Otto Cooper-Davies blitzed a large AWD field to win by a comfortable margin in the first race of the day. Following this, Ari Graham won the U14 Girls 3km event by a good distance as well. Laura Steffens put together another superb performance this year coming 2nd in the Intermediate Girls 3km race (the race was won by an athlete who recently placed 5th at the World Cross Country Champs!) Korban Bastiaanse ran a strong race to finish 5th in the hotly contested Junior Boys event.
HOCKEY STUDENTS MAKE U18 TEAM
Congratulations to Garrick Cummins, Ari Barrow, Thomas Batt, Thomas Mallon, Duncan Bridgeman and Hayden Kuyf who have been selected into the Canterbury U18A team. This year we have more representatives than any other school and our 1st XI are currently five wins from five.
