Junior Media Classes

Year 9 Media Class

Our unique Year 9 Media course sees students spend a semester working in our multi-camera TV Studio. It is wonderful to see the Year 9 students quickly embracing the various technical and production roles to design and produce original live television shows.

This is a supportive and positive environment, where students who enjoy performance can sing, act, dance or play an instrument in front of their peers, in a multi-camera studio. It’s exciting to watch the Year 9 students learn teamwork, leadership, discipline, respect, confidence, and a range of performance and technical skills.

Some students demonstrate leadership skills as producers, directors, and floor managers. A number of industry professionals have started their careers in our unique studio environment.

Year 10 Media Class

This course builds on skills developed during our Year 9 course. Students learn more field-based practical skills to produce a variety of media content such as advertisements, trailers, and short films, as well as continuing to develop their technical and production skills. Some of the students build on their Year 9 experience while others are learning the ‘art’ for the first time.

The Studio: Live Suite and Production Suite

We are fortunate to have the only fully professional production studio in a New Zealand School. This is our ‘live suite’ where our Year 9 classes begin their media journey by producing a range of live shows, using professional television systems and techniques. Our senior Media Studies Production and Broadcast classes may also produce TV shows and content as part of their NCEA courses.
