The Night Circus

By Erin Morgenstern

More news for Fantasy Fiction

Book review written by Alice Burnett (Year 11, 2019)

The Night Circus is about two magicians who are competing with each other in a magical game. The pair were bound to the challenge from a young age and have spent their lives perfecting their talents. While the game takes place in “the circus”, everyone is clueless as to what the game is, even the competitors themselves. Filled with mystery, illusion and romance, The Night Circus is a read for anyone.

I loved this book because it was weird. To put it bluntly anyway. Throughout the book you never know what is going to happen next. Things you never would have expected to happen. The writing style is so interesting and you don’t want to put the book down. Another reason that I loved this book was the way it was written. The author uses third person narrating in such a way that you feel you are watching the story unfold. Throughout the book, Morgenstern takes brief pause from the story to explain different aspects of the circus, each more whimsical then the last. I would recommend this book to anyone who’s interested in mysterious, whimsical or magical fiction. The book has a way of gripping your attention and keeping you engaged. Some parts of the book seem like they don’t make sense within the context at the time, but everything makes sense.
