Polo

Polo at St Andrew's College includes the opportunity to participate in weekly trainings, a Polo camp, and three SUPA Tournaments per season.

Roddy Wood (OC 1974) is a highly regarded international player and polo manager, and, along with his sons, offer our students a wonderful opportunity to train weekly at their Waireka Polo School in Sefton. Students build up a skill base, which quickly progresses them to tournament level players. Trainings are on a Tuesday from 4.30pm – 6.00pm at Waireka Polo Field. Minivan transport is provided to and from Sefton.

Riding lessons will be required for inexperienced riders, in addition to the weekly polo trainings. Polo players are required to purchase a wooden mallet once they commit to playing for a season.

One of the major benefits of playing polo is that students can participate in conjunction with their other sports.

Additional professional coaching can be facilitated by the co-ordinator, should it be required. The co-ordinator also organises tournament entries and support for the SUPA polo events.

The sport of polo has been played for thousands of years and has vied with horse racing as ‘the sport of kings.’ While it can be equated to a mix of horseback riding, croquet and soccer, polo has a tremendous amount of physical, emotional and mental health benefits.

Many of our Polo players also ride in Equestrian events. Please click here for more information on Equestrian at St Andrew's College.
