‘Beyond the Camera’
Experience the magic! You can be that film director, producer or actor that you’ve wanted to be. You can sing or dance in a real television studio, one that has all the lights, cameras and microphones you need to make a proper TV show. You can drive one of those cameras, manage the 28 channel sound board, present or direct the live show. You can learn from people who work in the TV or film industry every day, people who know the right way.
Beyond the Camera (BTC) is a film and television course for teenagers (and some older participants) with a passion for film, TV or performance generally. It is run at St Andrew’s College during the school holidays, and introduces participants to technical aspects of film and TV production and also helps those who aspire to a career in front of the cameras. BTC attracts people from all over New Zealand and beyond. It is an intensive, exciting and challenging course. Participants live and dine in the College’s boarding facilities.
Over the course of the BTC week, participants have the opportunity to work in the studio, take workshops with industry professionals and hear tutors from tertiary courses speak about careers in film and television.
During the week the College is a hive of activity, with camera crews working collaboratively to make short films and TV programmes. The culmination of the week is a live show filmed in front of an audience. The participants’ work is always impressive, testimony to their own skills and the calibre of the course. So too is the fact that many BTC course participants have gone on to highly successful film and television careers.
