The St Andrew’s College campus provides two libraries to our students.  These two libraries work closely together, sharing books and resources to provide the best possible service to students.  The libraries are fully staffed for all opening hours and the catalogue accessed 24/7, from home or school, via the Libraries intranet page:  http://intranet.stac.school.nz/library.  This page also provides other vital links for research and reading information.

The Preparatory Library is situated near the Norman’s Road entrance to the Preparatory School and has an extensive range of fiction and non-fiction for the Year 1 – 8 students.

The Secondary Library can be found facing into the Quad for easy central access for all Year 9 - 13 students.  This library has a comprehensive range of non-fiction resources and provides are large fiction collection on the mezzanine floor.  Two computer areas with a total of 42 computers are provided for student and class use.

Historically the libraries have existed completely separately from each other but the new Oliver system effectively creates one library with two branches says Cathy Kennedy the College's Library Manager who oversees both libraries.

“Our immediate goal is to provide a common site on the intranet so we have a library without walls. A modern library has to have 24/7 access” says Cathy.  “Searching the Internet is a bit like students looking for goldfish in a swimming pool and typically students will only look at the top three results of a search. We can get rid of the surplus information so it becomes like looking for goldfish in a bowl.”

She would also like to keep nurturing the reading culture the College has and as part of that intends keeping the author visits going. The Prep School library recently hosted Fleur Beale and a favourite for encouraging boys to read, Brian Falkner.

Opening Hours

Preparatory Library:  Monday – Friday 8:15am – 3:30pm

Secondary Library:  Monday – Friday 8:00am – 5:00pm and Monday - Thursday 6:00pm – 8:00pm

As I reflect back on another busy term, I am once again amazed at the variety of events and activities that we have managed to pack into eleven weeks.  Once again, there have been many reasons to celebrate, and successes to acknowledge.

Events have included Swimming and Athletics Sports Days, Founders’ Day, Governor-General’s Dinner, Boarding House Opening, Open Days and the creation of our very own ‘Lip Dub’, This is Us – all opportunities to enjoy our special StAC spirit and showcase some of our outstanding student talent.  Thank you to parents, PTA, Old Collegians and Board members who joined in on these occasions.

Let us show you around...

Chapel Update

Chapel Bridge SM

The College is ready to embark on rebuilding its Memorial Chapel which was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquakes. The Chapel is a significant facility that services the large St Andrew’s community which has a strong emotional connection to the present building. After a robust consultation process the decision has been made to deconstruct the existing Chapel and build a larger Chapel able to meet the College’s future needs.
