St Andrew’s College Pipe Band

stac10stacattack071

Of all the features that make St Andrew’s College special, our pipe band is perhaps the most widely-known and loved. The band was formed in 1919 and has existed continually ever since. It is perennially New Zealand’s best at school level, and at the 2007 and 2010 World Championships in Scotland was rated among the very best on the planet.

The skirl of the pipes is an integral part of daily life at the College. You will hear it at assemblies, at sports fixtures, at prizegiving and at many other special events and occasions. It is a sound that will evoke powerful emotions and, after you leave St Andrew’s, become a treasured reminder of your years here.

Over 100 students are involved with the ‘A’ and ‘B’ bands. Each year, the players stage a spectacular public concert called ‘StAC Attack’. This involves all band members – from the very youngest to the very oldest – as well as a variety of supporting musicians and dancers. StAC Attack is a feast for the senses that leaves audiences stunned at the level of talent possessed by such young performers.

The band is also in high demand to play at public events such as the A & P Show.

The College offers scholarships to talented pipers and drummers from other schools to assist with their transition to St Andrew’s. For more information, please click the ‘Scholarships’ link above.

Chapel Update

Chapel Bridge SM

The College is ready to embark on rebuilding its Chapel which was badly damaged in the 2011 earthquakes. The Chapel is a significant facility that services the large St Andrew’s community which has a strong emotional connection to the present building. After a robust consultation process the decision has been made to deconstruct the existing Chapel and build a larger Chapel able to meet the College’s future needs.
