2022 REUNION INFORMATION

After a rather frustrating first term, we are now well underway planning the rest of this year's reunions and events. We were disappointed not to be able to host both our 30 Years of Girls and 60 Years On group, Class of 1962, at Founders' Day weekend in March due to the COVID-19 restrictions. We are still planning on celebrating our girls before the year is out, and we are looking forward to seeing our Class of 1962 at the same time next year instead!

We had a well-attended, very moving, ANZAC Day service last month and it was wonderful to be able to host this, albeit with restricted gatherings in place. There is a link to view the service video recording and photo album later in this newsletter if you are interested.

Auckland Old Collegians Cocktail Party, The Northern Club, Thursday 2 June

Our first social event of the year is in Auckland at the prestigious Northern Club, in the central city. I warmly invite all of our Old Collegians in Auckland and surrounding areas to come and join our Rector, Christine Leighton, our OCA President, Meg Black, and myself at this special event. Partners are very welcome. It would be lovely to meet and reconnect with you all. A sincere thank you to Michael Woods (OC 1996) for making The Northern Club available to us. We hope to see you there!

Our 1st XV Rugby Reunion will be held at the College on Saturday 18 June involving teams from 1952, 1962, 1972, 1982, 1992, 2002 and 2012. This will be a special celebration this year as we will have our first female 1st XV attendees from 2002. This is especially significant as we celebrate 30 years of co-education at St Andrew's College this year.

The 40 Years On reunion will incorporate two groups this year due to COVID-19 cancellations. We will be welcoming the Class of 1981 and the Class of 1982 back to the College on Friday 1–Saturday 2 July for a fun weekend of friendship and reminiscing.

The 50 Years On reunion will be the Class of 1972 this year and we look forward to welcoming that group back on the weekend of Friday 29–Saturday 30 July. I will be sending more information about this in the coming weeks to those involved.

Our OCA Annual General Meeting will be held at the College on Wednesday 10 August. You are all welcome to attend this.

The OCA Annual Dinner is always a popular evening and this will be held in Strowan House on Friday 12 August. Tickets will be on sale later in the term.

Dunedin Old Collegians – we are coming to see you! Keep Friday 16 September free, details to come. We are looking forward to sampling some southern hospitality!

Gentlemen's Luncheon and our 70 Years On, Class of 1952, will be held on Friday 14 October.

The OCA Golf Tournament has been rescheduled to Friday 28 October.

10 Years On, Class of 2008, will be Thursday 10 November, the eve of Christchurch Cup and Show Week.

30 Years of Girls Celebration will hopefully be held in Term 4 and I will be in touch when a date has been made available.

So, as you can see, we have a very busy calendar ahead. I am trying to find every missing person for each reunion we hold, so if you change email addresses, or cities, please let me know so that you can continue to be included.

Please contact me anytime for more information.

Warm regards,

ANZAC DAY 2022

On Monday 25 April, St Andrew's College held our annual ANZAC Day Service in the Centennial Chapel. Two hundred guests gathered to pay their respects to Old Collegians and staff who have given their lives in service to their country. The service also honours all those who have served in our defence forces.

Thank you to those who attended either in person or virtually, and particularly to Rev. Paul Morrow who organised and conducted the service, assisted by the College sacristans.

Board Chair, Felicity Odlin and OCA President, Meg Black read the Roll of Honour and wreaths were laid in the Memorial Enclave by Alison Ballantyne (Ladies’ Circle) and Meg Black (OCA).

Pictured is William Couper (Year 11) in a 1942 Jeep remembering Bill Whitson, his Grandfather, and John Appleby, his cousin twice removed, a St Andrew's College Old Collegian, on the Roll of Honour.
