It is open to students of all ages in the College, with the only experience necessary being enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
Our Kapa Haka group performs at several special occasions during the year, including the Mihi Whakatau, various assemblies, prizegivings, opening and blessing ceremonies, and at a number of chapel services, including the Māori Language Week chapel service. The group also welcomes new groups or VIPs to the College.
Every year Kapa Haka works towards the Tuhono Festival, held at St Andrew's College and run by Matua Steve Reid. This occurs in the second to last week of Term 3 in Gym 1. Four or five other local schools also participate in this wonderful event. The day after the Tuhono Festival ends, our Kapa Haka group does a special performance at the End of Term 3 Assembly.
There are no costs associated with Kapa Haka. Practice is every Wednesday during the lunchtime during Terms 1, 2 and 3.
