Netball

Netipōro

St Andrew’s College has a proud culture of netball success. The vision of our programme is to assist players to reach their full potential and develop well-respected, spirited and passionate netballers.

Participation is actively encouraged, with the netball programme designed for the enjoyment of all. Trials are held at the beginning of the season to ascertain a suitable level and team for each player. All players wishing to play netball are found a team to join. St Andrew’s College has 22 competitive netball teams playing on Saturdays. These range from Premier 2 through to Future Ferns.

Our netball teams compete in a combination of the Wednesday school competition and Saturday club competition, which runs through the holidays. Our Senior A team also competes in the South Island Secondary Schools Netball Tournament, and has qualified for the National Tournament on more than one occasion. Players from the 9A and 10A teams participate in the Junior South Island Secondary Tournament in the July school holidays.

For students in Years 11–13 we have the option to join a Wednesday social team that plays in the intercollegiate competition.

A significant number of high calibre people support our netball teams, including some high profile former New Zealand franchise and international players.

We have two specialist programmes at St Andrew’s, which help our netballers to develop:

Athlete Development Programme – Netball

As part of the in curricular Athlete Development Programme students in Year 9 and 10 can opt for Netball as their chosen sport. They receive in class coaching for skill specific development from qualified coaches for one semester a year.

StAC Netball Academies – Junior and Senior

The aim of our Netball Academies is to provide a pathway for young netballers to improve their personal play. Both academies are facilitated by Motivationz, whose director, Marg Foster, is a former Silver Fern. The academy takes place before school in the StAC Gym throughout the netball season.
