Annual Dinner 2021

More news for Functions

On Friday 13 August 2021, the Old Collegians Association hosted their Annual Dinner.  We had an incredible turnout with 134 Old Collegians in attendance, ranging in peer years from 1949–2019. We came together also to celebrate the amazing achievements of some of our Old Collegians by presenting our annual awards.

This year, the Maginness Cup Sports Award went to Sam Lane (OC 2015) who represents New Zealand in the Black Sticks hockey team.  Unfortunately, Sam was not able to join us as he was in quarantine in Christchurch having returned from the Tokyo Olympics just days before. His award was proudly accepted by his father Keith. The Cockram Cultural Award this year went to Sven Pannell (OC 1996) for his achievements in the film industry, notably his award winning 2015 documentary Act of Kindness which won awards at the New Zealand International Film Festival and other festivals around the world. The Alister Newton Service award was won this year by Andy Munro (OC 1974) for his tireless service to his community, as Chair for both the North Canterbury Rural Support Trust and Friends of the Glenmark Church Inc.  Rev. Sandra Wright-Taylor was made an Honorary Old Collegian for her 12 Years' service to St Andrew’s College and Bryan Pearson (OC 1980) was gifted a beautiful artwork of the College, by artist and OCA Executive Kelvin McMillan (OC 1977).

The evening was expertly MC’d by OCA Executive Sam Crosbie (OC 2009) and a very memorable speech was delivered by our OCA President Meg Black (OC 2010). Jonathan Wells (OC 1987) had us entertained with his accomplished Address to the Haggis, and the evening was topped off by another superb meal by our Catering Manager, Russell Gray, and his team.

A wonderful social well run evening. A good time was had by all and I greatly enjoyed catching up with all my old class mates and sadly hearing about those who had passed on and would never again be able to attend.
The catering was spot on and the wine flowed freely.
I was greatly impressed by a well run warm friendly environment St Andrews has become and hugely amazed to learn 40% of the school role is now young ladies ....... Well done to all the wonderful Staff and those in command.
