Community Service

A group of senior staff attended the weekly community meal at Latimer Square, where Daniel Chung and his wife have been providing free cooked meals for people experiencing homelessness or hardship in Christchurch for around 18 years. Staff assisted with serving meals as part of an initial exploration of how the College might support this long‑standing service.

Hokianga/Te Tai Tokerau Trip

A group of St Andrew’s College rangatahi spent five days exploring the landscape, history, and wairua of Hokianga and Te Tai Tokerau. The journey began in Waitangi, where students deepened their understanding of Aotearoa New Zealand’s shared history and the significance of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. The trip included visits to Cape Reinga/Te Rerenga Wairua, and Tāne Mahuta, with the trip concluding in true Hokianga style, with swimming and manu at the Ōmāpere and Opononi wharfs.

It was an engaging start to the year with the Preparatory School Meet the Teacher event on Tuesday 10 February, followed by the popular PTA Wine and Cheese Night. These occasions are important opportunities to strengthen the partnership between home and school and to connect with parents who play such a vital role in the St Andrew’s College community.

The Centennial Chapel was filled with laughter during the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake race. Representatives from the Preparatory School kaimahi competed in a closely contested race, with teachers Bid Constanti taking first place and Jayde Mayberry finishing second.

Three St Andrew’s Pasifika student leaders, Metua Cranwell, Moleli Lagokamu and Hannah Papali'i Taimalelagi Malietoa (all Year 13) attended the annual SPACPAC Collective Leadership Summit

Retreat at the Multicultural Centre, alongside Pasifika Co-ordinator, James Jenkinson, and teacher, Connor O’Rourke. The Summit provided the students with leadership insights and strategies for championing Pacific cultures within the St Andrew’s College community.

To mark La Journée Internationale de la Francophonie on 20 March, the International Club hosted a crêpe‑making session. Students prepared crêpes with a variety of toppings, with further activities, including a quiz exploring French‑speaking countries.
