Every family’s enrolment journey is slightly different, depending on your child’s age, current school year, and intended point of entry. This page explains the main pathways into St Andrew’s College, from Pre-school through to Year 13, and outlines what families need to know before applying.

Finding the right pathway for your child

St Andrew’s College welcomes enrolment applications across three main areas of the College:

Pre-school, Ages 2–5
Preparatory School, Year 1–8 students
Secondary School, Year 9–13 students

Application dates vary according to the year level and proposed year of entry. The timelines below outline the key dates for current application rounds. We encourage families to apply by the published deadline for their child’s entry point.

Because each area has its own structure and intake process, applications are managed separately. Families with children already enrolled in the Preparatory School do not need to submit a new external application, or pay a second application fee, to continue into the Secondary School. A new full application is required when a child moves from the Pre-school into the Preparatory School.

Important information before applying

Applications are accepted year-round for the Pre-school, Preparatory School, and Secondary School. However, some entry points have specific timelines, and there is high demand for places in several year groups. We encourage families to express interest early so you can receive information about Open Days, Information Evenings, key dates, and application requirements.

Pre-enrolment does not guarantee a place. Siblings and children of Old Collegians are accommodated subject to available places and the College’s ability to support each learner. All offers are made in line with the College’s Admissions Policy.

Applications for 2027

Applications for entry into Years 10–13 in 2027 are considered chronologically and close on Sunday 1 November 2026.

The first wave of offers will be made from Tuesday 27 October, interviews will be completed by Monday 16 November, and the final wave of offers will be made on Friday 4 December.

Applications are now open for Year 9 2028

Current Year 7 students can apply during our early application period and may be considered for an offer before Christmas 2026. For all other applicants, the standard application deadline for Year 9 entry in 2028 is Friday 12 March 2027.

Families are encouraged to begin the enrolment process early and to attend one of our 2027 enrolment events. Our Boarding Roadshows provide an opportunity for regional families to meet members of the College community, while our Open Days allow families to experience St Andrew’s in action and explore the opportunities available across the College.

Starting school in Year 0 (New Entrants)

From 2027, St Andrew's College operates a cohort entry model for children starting school for the first time. Rather than beginning individually on or shortly after their fifth birthday, new entrants start school on designated cohort entry dates throughout the year, normally twice a term.

This approach enables children to begin alongside other new learners, supporting friendships, belonging, confidence, and a well-planned transition into school life.

Enrolment Steps

Beginning your St Andrew’s College journey is an exciting step, and our Enrolments Team is here to support you throughout the process. Below is an outline of the enrolment pathway depending on the stage your child is entering.

Start by selecting the stage your child will be entering. Each section outlines the key timing, application steps, and information families need to know.

Secondary School | Years 9–13
Applications for Years 9–13 are accepted throughout the year. Year 9 is a major entry point, and applications for the following year usually close in March of the previous year. Applications received before the published deadline will be considered as part of the main intake process.
For Year 9 applicants, enrolment decisions are based on the contribution a student can make to the College environment and the extent to which the College can support the student to be their best. Familial ties with the College are also considered, with special consideration given to applications received within the published timeframe from:
- current St Andrew’s College Year 8 students;
- siblings of current St Andrew’s College students;
- siblings of past St Andrew’s College students;
- children of former St Andrew’s College students.
Application process
1. Begin the enrolment process by completing the appropriate application form and paying the non-refundable application fee.
2. Once your application is received, your details will be added to our database so we can keep you informed as the process progresses.
3. We will contact prospective students to request copies of academic reports from previous schools and a short two-minute video submission introducing themselves.
4. Once all application paperwork has been reviewed, students may be considered for an interview. All students new to St Andrew’s, including those who did not attend the St Andrew’s Preparatory School, and children of Old Collegians, will be considered for an interview. If your child is a sibling of a current or past student, interviews are optional. The interview is relaxed and informal and is an opportunity for us to learn more about your child and for your family to learn more about St Andrew’s.
5. If the application is successful, a formal offer of enrolment will be made. Offers are made holistically in line with the College’s Admissions Policy, reflecting our values and special character. If an application is unsuccessful at this time, your child will be offered a place on our waitlist.
6. As part of your offer, you will be given a clear Acceptance Date. By this date, a non-refundable acceptance fee is payable. This includes the student’s life membership of the Old Collegians Association, plus a refundable bond. The bond is only refundable to students who have attended the College for a minimum of six months, and will be repaid when they leave, subject to any outstanding charges.
7. If your child is entering Year 9 and their enrolment is confirmed, they will be asked to sit a placement test in July. Results from this test, along with academic achievement at previous schools, will help determine their core curriculum classes for the following year.
Preparatory School | Years 1–8
There is strong demand for places in the Preparatory School, and at many year levels the number of applicants exceeds the spaces available. Applications are accepted year-round, with consideration given to a range of factors, including siblings of current students and children of alumni.
Most children are accepted by the end of Term 2, in late June, in the year before they are due to start.

2. Once your application is received, your details will be added to our database so we can keep you informed as the process progresses.
3. Interviews and/or school visits are part of the enrolment process across all year groups. Pre-school visits are undertaken for all New Entrants. The enrolment process for Year 7 also includes a literacy assessment.
4. For children with additional learning needs, we require a copy of any existing cognitive, psychological, educational, or SLD assessments. These should be provided when submitting your child’s latest school report, or at the interview or assessment stage, before an offer of enrolment is made. Please note, failure to provide all required information could result in an offer of place being withdrawn.
5. If an offer is made, in line with our Admissions Policy, you will be given a clear Acceptance Date. By this date, a non-refundable acceptance fee is payable. 6. From 2027, children entering Year 0 will commence on the designated cohort entry date following their fifth birthday.
7. Preparatory School applications will roll over into the Secondary School. Applications for the Secondary School can also be brought forward to the Preparatory School, with no need to re-apply.
Pre-school | Ages 2–5
At St Andrew’s College Pre-school, we understand that choosing an early childhood centre is a significant decision for families. Once you have decided that our Pre-school is the right option for your child, please follow the enrolment process below.
1. Begin the enrolment process by completing the appropriate application form and paying an application fee.
2. If you later decide to apply for a place in the Preparatory School, a separate application will need to be submitted. However, you will not be required to pay a second application fee. Please email prepenrol@stac.school.nz to have this fee waived.
3. Once your application is received, your details will be added to our database so we can keep you informed as the process progresses.
4. Your child will be added to the waiting list, and placements will be confirmed approximately two terms prior to your desired start date.
5. Once placement is confirmed, we will ask you to confirm your enrolment details.
6. You and your child will then be invited to join us for a pre-entry tour of the Pre-school and to meet members of staff.
International Students | Years 1–13

International or Foreign Fee Paying students must be offered a place at St Andrew’s College before applying for a student visa or permit to enter New Zealand.
Before applying, families should read the important information in the International Students section of the website, then complete the Foreign Fee Paying (International) Student application form.
AEAS Testing
International applicants for whom English is a second language must sit an entrance test administered by AEAS. AEAS test results provide information about the student’s English language proficiency and general ability.
The AEAS Report will be considered alongside other information provided by the family when the student’s application is reviewed. AEAS testing is available around the world, and students can register online. Your agent may also assist with the registration process.
A copy of the student’s AEAS Report must be included with the enrolment application.
