The St Andrew’s College’s Mixed Touch team were crowned South Island Secondary School Touch Champions following a thrilling weekend of competition on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March.
The final against Wakatipu High School was a tightly contested match, locked at 9–9 at full time. Extra time saw the match progress to a golden point situation after both teams scored once, with player numbers reduced as per tournament rules. In the decisive moment, Beau Robertson (Year 13) took the opening tap and used his speed to break through the defence, securing the championship for the College.
Across the tournament, the team delivered consistently strong performances. In pool play, St Andrew’s College recorded wins against Central Southland College and Taieri College, before progressing through the knockout rounds with convincing victories over Mt Hutt College in the quarter final and Rolleston College in the semi final.
The Mixed Touch team represented the College with pride, displaying resilience, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship throughout the tournament. While the weekend proved physically demanding, the team finished their campaign tired but thrilled with the result.
