New Head of Senior School

Following John Ruge’s departure, St Andrew’s has welcomed experienced educator, Julia Shannon, as its new Head of Senior School.

Julia has been Deputy Principal at Southland Boys’ High School for the last five years, and brings significant experience in curriculum leadership, pastoral systems, and whole-school improvement, says Rector, Mark Wilson.

“Julia also has a strong focus on academic progress, student well-being and building high-performing teams. We are excited to welcome her to the College, and believe she will make a significant impact for our Year 12–13 students.”

Another recent change has been renaming the Senior College to the Senior School, Mark shares.

“The name change brings the Senior School in line with the Middle School and Preparatory School, creating a more cohesive identity for the three schools within St Andrew’s College.”

Julia grew up in Christchurch and is happy to be returning to the city with her husband, Lachie, and their three children. She started at St Andrew’s College on Monday 17 August 2026.
