It was another fantastic Summer Tournament Week, with 24 groups representing St Andrew’s and testing themselves against strong competition in 12 different sporting codes in national, South Island, and regional competitions during late March.

The top result was the outstanding performance of the Senior Girls’ tennis team, which won bronze at the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Tennis Championships. Other notable national achievements were the Senior canoe polo team finishing ninth in New Zealand, and the Girls’ Senior A volleyball team tenth in their competition.

Highlights of the South Island competitions were the titles won by the Senior Mixed touch team, along with the Girls’ A 3×3 basketball team, who was unbeaten on their way to defending their South Island title from 2025. The Senior Boys’ A 3×3 basketball team finished second in the South Island and will move on to the national tournament with the girls’ team.

National Competitions

Tennis

For the first time, St Andrew’s entered both the Senior Boys’ and Girls’ tennis teams in the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Tennis Championships in Auckland. The girls’ team played excellent tennis to finish top of their pool after strong 4–2 wins against St Cuthbert’s College and King’s College for Girls, before progressing to their semi-final match against Diocesan School for Girls. In another closely contested match, the girls went down 2–4, qualifying for the playoff for third and fourth. The boys’ team competed in a challenging pool, narrowly missing progression into the semi-finals and moving into playoff matches for fifth to eighth. Unfortunately bad weather and water on the courts meant the playoffs were called off, however, the St Andrew’s girls win over King’s College for Girls in pool play secured them third place in New Zealand and the bronze medal.

Canoe Polo

The St Andrew’s canoe polo squad, made up of a mix of experienced and developing players, performed well at the New Zealand Secondary Schools’ Canoe Polo Championships, recording several strong results. Led by captain, Luca Rose (Y13) who contributed to organisation and consistency on the water, the team progressed to the Division 2 final, where they were narrowly defeated by one goal, finishing with silver medals and placing ninth overall nationally.
