On Friday 23Sat 24 May, the College played host to the 50 Years On reunion for the Class of 1975–1979. More than 40 Old Collegians and their partners returned to rekindle friendships and relive memories that have stood the test of time.

The weekend began with a walk down memory lane, quite literally, as attendees toured the campus. Familiar sights sparked stories and laughter, while the impressive new facilities, including the new Gough Family Theatre drew admiration from all.

Friday evening’s Cocktail Party was a lively affair, filled with warm reunions and animated conversations. It was great to welcome former staff members John and Jill Irving, Rex Livingstone, Wayne Milligan and Mike Woodlock, whose presence added an extra layer of nostalgia.

Saturday night’s dinner was a highlight of the weekend, blending tradition with good humour. A heartfelt thank you goes to Duncan Bates, Michael Wells, and Hamish MacMaster for their contributions to the Haggis Address. We were honoured to welcome back Jonathan Wells (OC 1987) to deliver the Address, accompanied by Richard Hawke (OC 1980) on the bagpipes. Special thanks also to Guy Gunn for his excellent work as MC, Willie Davidson for his moving Toast to Absent Friends, and Hamish for his thoughtful and heartfelt Toast to the College.

We also appreciated hearing from OCA President Sam Crosbie (OC 2009) and our new Rector, Mark Wilson, who welcomed the group and shared some entertaining comparisons between life in 1979 and today. A special mention goes to Ian Milligan, whose dedication to rallying the group was invaluable, even though he was unable to attend in person.

As the weekend came to a close, there was a shared sense of gratitude—for the College, for enduring friendships, and for the opportunity to reconnect. The bonds formed decades ago remain strong, and the reunion served as a powerful reminder of the community we built together.
