60 Years On (Class of 1966–1970)
13 March 2026
On Friday 13 March, it was a pleasure to welcome back around 40 Old Collegians from the Class of 1966–1970, along with their partners, for their 60 Years On reunion. From the moment the weekend began, there was a strong sense of connection and nostalgia, balanced by genuine curiosity about how the College has evolved.
Attending the Founders’ Day Assembly was a highlight for many. The Rector’s address explored the origins of the College Song and the story of St Andrew and Regulus – a history that was new to most of our guests. Many commented on the confidence, talent and diversity of the students, and how different the College feels now. The presentation of the rowing medals by double Olympian Athol Earl was a special moment for our students.
The Highland Games brought plenty of colour, energy and fun to the afternoon. With chants, songs, competitive House games and lots of noise, it was a lively reminder of the strong House spirit that continues to thrive. The afternoon concluded with a performance from the Pipe Band.
Friday evening’s Cocktail Party was filled with stories and plenty of laughter. It was lovely to have former staff members John and Jill Irving, and Rex Livingstone, join the celebrations. During the College tour, the Old Boys were amazed at the scale of the facilities and the wide range of opportunities now available to students.
Saturday night’s formal dinner was another standout event. Thanks to Andrew Conway, John Munro and Rod Craw for their help with the Address to a Haggis. Ian Wallace did a wonderful job as MC, Doug Kelman delivered the Toast to Absent Friends, Alan Dodgson led the Grace, and Athol Earl gave a heartfelt Toast to the College. The replies were then delivered by Tomo Yee (OC 2008), Head of Development and Community Relations, and Alumni Manager Lisa Clark.
Thank you to Catering Manager Russell Gray and his team for looking after everyone so well throughout the weekend, and to Ian Wallace for the time he spent tracking down many of our guests and bringing everyone together. Overall, it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend – a chance to reconnect, reminisce, and celebrate enduring friendships and a shared connection to St Andrew’s College.
