Composition and Song Writing

An integral part of the school’s Project Based Learning initiatives is making space for our songwriters to excel.  Through regular teaching with specialist tutors and masterclasses our songwriters are very active.

In recent years, we have had three students qualify for the national album for the 'Play It Strange' competition, with Neil MacLeod (OC 2016) featuring on Seven Sharp - click here to view his performance.

The big event at College for our songwriters is our annual ‘Studio Set’, where our studio becomes a performance space as we record a live album - click here to watch the performances.

As part of our Project Based Learning programme all students compose for public events.  Our classical composers receive specialist tuition to enable them develop compositions for our ‘Classical in the Chapel’ night in Term 2 - click here to watch the performance.

At the 2019 'Play it Strange' competition, St Andrew's College had seven national finalists.
