Access to CCTV footage is restricted to a small number of authorised College staff will be viewed only in accordance with the purposes outlined in the College’s policy, and all access will be logged in a digital logbook.
No access to CCTV logs is provided unless approved by the Privacy Officer or in their absence, an appointed delegate.
Police may request access when investigating criminal activity in the area. The police are given access to the system as required but must comply with these guidelines. If the College has concerns about releasing this information, we will contact our legal advisors. The College must comply if the police have a search warrant.
In specific circumstances, the College Privacy Officer, with written consent, may allow limited access to CCTV footage by third parties, including (but not limited to):
Individuals or companies involved in a health and safety or security incident while on the College site.
Individuals or companies involved in traffic accidents or property damage while on the College site.
Employers of individuals involved in health and safety, security, or property damage incidents while on the College site.
Relevant public sector agencies, such as the New Zealand Police or the Office of the Privacy Commissioner, depending on the nature of the incident.
Individuals who have formally requested information and been granted access under the authorisation and direction of the Privacy Officer.
Any other instance where the College is legally required to provide the footage.
In each of the above cases, where access is granted, it will be limited to only the footage necessary to achieve the intended purpose. Where appropriate, the College will implement restrictions on third parties receiving footage through robust data-sharing agreements. The privacy of other people who may be in the footage must be considered in each case.
Any system misuse is reported to the Chief Information Officer (CIO), or Rector if the CIO is involved, or the Board of Governors if the rector is involved.
Individuals have the right to see footage of themselves as it is personal information held about them. However, they can only see it if it is readily retrievable, so must supply a time, date, and location.
Individuals wishing to view footage related to themselves may submit a request via privacy@stac.school.nz, addressed to the College Privacy Officer. Each request will be assessed based on the accessibility of the footage and the need to protect the privacy of other individuals.
Any complaints regarding the College’s collection, use, storage, or sharing of CCTV footage should also be directed to privacy@stac.school.nz, addressed to the College Privacy Officer.
