At St Andrew’s College, student well-being is at the heart of our community. During Term 2, Week 5, our school came together to celebrate Well-being Week, a time to reflect on the importance of caring for our mental, emotional, and physical health.

Led by Heads of Well-being Olivia Bloom and Gemma Wong (Year 13) and the dedicated Student Well-being Committee, the week featured a variety of activities inspired by the PERMA-V framework, an evidence-based model l that highlights the key elements of well-being and happiness developed by psychologist Martin Seligman.

Ākonga found creativity and calm in an origami session, engaged in meaningful discussions about managing stress and supporting one another during a lunchtime panel hosted by our Guidance Team, and contributed to a bake sale, with proceeds supporting Youthline. The week wrapped up with an energetic Jump Jam in the Quad, lifting spirits and reminding us all of the power of physical activity.

The highlight of the week was the annual Well-being Assembly, where Mia Montgomery (Year 13) delivered a heartfelt speech, encouraging students to embrace life’s unexpected turns and practice self-compassion. A key moment in the assembly was the presentation of the Mahia te Aroha Character Awards, recognising students who embody kindness, compassion, and inclusivity in their daily lives. The recipients were: George Hubbard, Charlotte Currie (Year 9), Holly Hembry, Thomas Ambury (Year 10), Hamish Bray, Isabelle Williamson (Year 11), Ken Minh-Ky Pham, Milla Hooker (Year 12), Yinan (Vivian) Lu, and Madeline Davidson (Year 13).

The assembly concluded with the annual Deans Challenge, where Middle School leaders invited the Deans to participate in a well-being-themed Kahoot quiz. With a gym full of enthusiastic cheers, Year 10 Dean, James Jenkinson, claimed victory.

Through this week of events, students were reminded of the strength of our inclusive, supportive school community and the importance of prioritising well-being every day.
