Old Collegian Lyndon Craig

As Head of Design for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa, for 100-year-old Swedish multinational, Electrolux, Lyndon Craig (OC 1998) leads a team which designs products, services, and experiences that millions of consumers around the world engage with in their daily lives. These include the full range of kitchen and laundry appliances, and the apps that drive the way users connect and interact with their products.

Lyndon says studying Design and Visual Communication at St Andrew’s College was a valuable first step towards his tertiary study at Massey University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Design, Industrial and Product Design with First Class Honours, before embarking on his impressive career. “DVC builds up both the formal and informal skills to practice as a designer. Understanding the challenge or problem you are trying to solve, and then expressing the solution to that problem, whether it’s an object, a building, a poster, or something else entirely, was the aspect of the course I enjoyed the most.”

He says DVC helps students to understand the concept of Design Thinking, which is a fundamental way of looking at the world and creating meaningful solutions. “Whether students want to follow a visual, product or service design path, or bring a human centred approach to how they think about business or social challenges, DVC provides a great foundation.”
