On Tuesday 31 March our Old Collegians tennis had a memorable victory at the 2026 Janet Storry Tennis Tournament, held in chilly conditions at Waimairi Tennis Club.

Competing against alumni teams from Christ’s College, St Margaret’s College, and Rangi Ruru, the StAC side delivered a composed and determined performance to secure the shield. This result marks the 30th Janet Storry title for St Andrew’s College since the tournament’s inception in 1930. It is the College’s first victory since 2012, and with the tournament not having been contested since 2016, the win made for a particularly special occasion.

A notable highlight of the evening was the strong family representation within the team. The lineup featured two sets of brothers, Johnny and Tim McHarg, and Grayson and Blake Cullen, reflecting the long-standing connection many families have with both the College and Old Collegians sport. A third set of brothers was scheduled to take part; however, Elliot Darling (OC 2013) was understandably unavailable after welcoming a new child just days earlier. The Old Collegians Association extends its warm congratulations to Elliot and his family.

Winning St Andrew’s College Old Collegians team:

Johnny McHarg (OC 1992)
Tim McHarg (OC 1995)
Tuscany Hamel (OC 2010)
Tom Batt (OC 2012)
Lawrence Darling (OC 2015)
Grayson Cullen (OC 2018)
Blake Cullen (OC 2022)
Sophie McDermott (OC 2022)
Lisa Clark (Alumni Manager, Coach)

A special acknowledgement goes to Johnny McHarg, who was also a member of the 2005 Janet Storry winning team. His inclusion in this year’s victory means he has contributed to championship wins across multiple decades, a remarkable testament to both his longevity and commitment to Old Collegians sport.

This latest triumph adds another chapter to the proud tennis tradition of St Andrew’s College and reflects the depth of camaraderie, competition, and connection that continues to define the Old Collegians community.

Thirty titles. Ninety-five years of history. One outstanding team.
