Hockey

Haupoi

St Andrew’s College has a well-established hockey programme, which is open to players at all levels.

The College enters teams in appropriate grades of the Canterbury Hockey Association weekly competition for both boys and girls. Games are played right through Terms 2 and 3 and in the holidays.

The Boys’ and Girls’ First XI teams compete in national tournaments during Winter Tournament Week. The Boys’ and Girls’ Second XI teams have the option to play in the local Nunweek Park tournament. Inter-school fixtures are also played.

All teams train on our own astroturf, with our two First XI teams also having a weekly training session together at Nunweek park. We run pre-season training sessions for interested players, as long as this does not conflict with the students’ summer commitment.

Elite hockey players are well catered for in our High Performance Sport Programme.

Successes

A record number of students played hockey for St Andrew’s College in 2020, with a significant highlight being the Girls’ 1st XI beating St Margaret’s College to win the Challenge Shield for the first time in St Andrew’s history. The girls also finished fourth at the South Island Tournament.
